01What Blackwall is
I'm William Carrion, and Blackwall is a Gmail app I made for myself. It runs only on my own Windows PC, and I'm the only person who uses it. It isn't offered or available to anyone else. This policy explains what it does with the Gmail data it can see.
02What it asks Google for
When I connect an account, Blackwall asks Google for two permissions:
gmail.readonlyto read the inbox, spam and sent mail from the last 30 days and their attachments, so it can sort and show them.gmail.sendto send an email or reply that I write myself. Nothing is sent until I press Send and then Confirm.
Blackwall never deletes, archives, labels or changes anything in Gmail.
03Where the data is kept
Everything stays on my PC. I don't run a server for it, and there's no cloud copy. On the PC, Blackwall keeps:
- the sign-in for each connected account,
- a local database of the sorted list, the emails I've opened, the name, type and size of their attachments, read marks, saved emails and summaries,
- the addresses I've emailed, so mail from people I know is marked important,
- a log of what the app did.
Emails that leave the inbox in Gmail, or are older than 30 days, drop out of the local database on the next sync.
The attachment files themselves aren't stored in the database. When I open one, Blackwall fetches it from Gmail and holds it in memory only while the app is running. A file is written to my Downloads folder only when I press Save, and Blackwall never opens or runs it.
04What is sent to Anthropic
Blackwall uses Anthropic's Claude API in two cases, and only then:
- Sorting. When its own rules can't tell where an email belongs, the sender, the receiving address, the subject, Gmail's category tags and the first 300 characters of the email are sent to Claude, which answers with a pile and a short reason.
- Summaries. When I press Summarize on an email, its sender, recipient, subject and text (up to 12,000 characters) are sent to Claude, which answers with a short summary.
Attachments are never sent to Claude. Anthropic handles this data under its commercial terms. Blackwall doesn't use Gmail data to train or improve any AI model.
05Images in emails
When I open an email that has images, Blackwall fetches them from the sender's servers, like any mail app does. Those servers can see that the image was requested. Links in emails open in my normal web browser, and only when I click them.
06Nothing is sold or shared
Gmail data is never sold, shared with anyone else, used for ads, or tracked with analytics. Apart from the Claude requests above, it doesn't leave my PC.
Blackwall's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
07Removing access
- In Blackwall, Accounts → Remove deletes that account's sign-in and everything Blackwall stored for it from the PC.
- Access can also be revoked at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

If Blackwall starts using data differently, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
